Here’s a Great Tip!

I was talking with our laminator repair technician today and he offered a great tip that I wanted to pass along.

When laminating thick items such as cardstock or posterboard, it is best to set the speed no higher than 2.

In the past, several users have experienced having laminated items with air pockets or items where the lamination film completely pulls apart.  Our technician explained that when documents run through too fast, there is less heat available to help bind the film to the item.  The slower speed will allow the item and film to receive more heat, which will also help reduce these problems.

Hope this was helpful-It was a mystery solved for me.  Happy Laminating!

New Email Link

Hello Everyone,

It was brought to my attention that our website home page still has the old link to email.  I am updating this link, which will take you directly to the new email sign in page.

Need Music?

If you’ve been looking for royalty-free music to use in a classroom presentation such as Powerpoint, there is a great site that I found a few years back called freeplaymusic.com.  Free Play Music allows free personal and student educational use of all music on their site.  (Some restrictions) You can search for music by keyword, feeling, style, or instrument.  There is a preview option so that you can choose the best selection for your needs prior to downloading.

Have You Visited Thinkfinity?

Free Books for Pre-K through Second!

tn_books202

Hello everyone,

I just received an email from a company called Willbooks.  They donate at least 20,000 books to Pre-K through second grade students every week.  From what I read on their website, there is no charge for the books and like some other programs that charge for shipping, there are no shipping costs.  It really sounds as if they are absolutely free, so this might be something that you (Pre-K through grade 2 teachers) will want to take advantage of.

There is a form you will need to fill out to apply for the books.  All applications are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

LIbrary Media Center Faculty Orientation 2009-2010

Library Media Center Faculty Presentation

Welcome!

Welcome back everyone and welcome to the new Miles Jones Library Media Blog for Teachers!

This is a place just for you, where you will find library news and information throughout the school year.  There is a second blog version for students (same address without the number 2).  You can remind your students that they and their parents can visit the student blog for news and information.  A link will be placed on the main school web page for easy access.  Please check the teacher blog weekly for updates.   I plan to use this as a communication tool to help you receive library news and learn more about library resources.  (Please remember to save the address in your favorites)  If there is anything that I can immediately assist you with at any time during the school year, please feel free to ask.  I look forward to working with you!
